Discover the charm of solo travel, quietly, deeply.
I've always believed that solo travel isn't about loneliness, but about freedom. The freedom to wander, to discover, and to connect with oneself. Bustling cities like Shinjuku, in particular, are perfect for this journey. However, I also know they can be daunting. That's why I created this sanctuary for you.
In 2019, I visited Tokyo alone. Faced with language barriers, cultural differences, and overwhelming crowds, I felt lost. But with the help of locals, I found tranquil spots in quiet coffee shops and small izakayas where I could find peace.
This experience led to the birth of Japan Solo Hunter. I wanted to create a guide for solo travelers like myself to discover the real Japan. To help you find sanctuaries amidst the chaos and craft your own unique journey.
Instead of listing thousands of places, we curate sanctuaries. Each spot on this site is chosen for its unique character and respect for the solo travel experience.
We prioritize quality over quantity. Each spot is personally vetted to ensure it's ideal for solo travelers.
We feature places where you'll feel comfortable alone, not just group-oriented spots. Think counter seats and quiet atmospheres.
We select places with English menus or where pointing works, making them accessible even if you're not confident with the language.
From Canada
"Thanks to Japan Solo Hunter, I found an amazing little jazz bar in Shinjuku. Knowing it was okay even if I didn't speak Japanese gave me the confidence to go in. I can't believe I had such a rich experience traveling solo!"
From the USA
"As an introvert, I was anxious about solo travel in Japan. The coffee shop recommended on this site was exactly the quiet space I was looking for. I'm grateful to have found a place where I could be among locals without feeling overwhelmed."
From Spain
"I had a wonderful time at a small izakaya recommended by this site, sitting at the counter. The owner spoke almost no English, but thanks to the site's advice, I managed to communicate with gestures. It's a memory I'll cherish forever!"
